Different trips undoubtedly call for different itineraries. If you’re looking for a luxury, relaxing, and family-friendly experience on Paros, I highly recommend exploring Summer Senses Resort. I had heard excellent reviews of the Small Luxury Hotel brand, and this one exceeded every expectation.
Location: Summer Senses is located a little off the beaten path in Paros. Because of that, this hotel works best when you have a rental car and when walkability from the hotel itself is not in your priority list. Summer Senses was typically about a 15-20 minute drive from our intended destinations in Paros (e.g., port, restaurants, sights, beaches); however, we also easily found nearby pharmacies, groceries, and quick food options as needed for convenience. (As an aside, having a car with GPS or a GPS navigation option on your smart phone is a must with a rental car. Plan for at least one of these options.)
Rooms: Our room comfortably slept four, including a king-sized bed in a separate room as well as two twin beds in the living room area which also included a coffee table. Our room had a small balcony off each of those two rooms, which let you take in the view (gorgeous!!). Our room had a nice bathroom (separate rooms for the toilet and the shower). Kid-friendly detail: the shower also had a removable sprayer shower head, which is very helpful when you have toddlers and no bathtub.
Pools: There are multiple pools on the property, with good seating options, including some typical pool loungers as well as some plush comfy seating around the pools. I especially enjoyed curling up with a book in the comfier seats! The pools are beautiful and give such a nice view and vibe to the property. Kid-friendly detail: one of the pools (lower level, easy to overlook) is much shallower and ideal for younger kids! This is more of a wading pool with little seating nearby.
Restaurant: The on-site restaurant was an unexpected gem. In the morning, the restaurant served breakfast (included with our stay) and it was easily a 10/10. The breakfast buffet had hot options (think eggs, cooked vegetables, potatoes, breakfast sausages), a huge variety of pastries and jams, fresh fruit, yogurt parfaits, cereals, and more. You could also order made-to-order specialty coffees including Greek coffee, capuccinos, and more. I originally intended to try some other breakfast locations in Paros, but after seeing the breakfast at our hotel, I couldn’t pass it up for a single morning. We also occasionally ate at the hotel for a late dinner after a long day of exploring. I was very impressed by their dinner menu. In fact, I ordered the same dish on two separate nights because I thought it was so delicious! We also have a child with a food allergy and the staff made this straightforward and easy to navigate when we told them about that allergy.
Service: The staff went over and above from start to finish. This is a place where this resort really shines. Every staff member we encountered was extremely friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable. We needed to find a pediatrician on our first day in Paros (long story… all turned out just fine) and the front desk staff was extremely helpful in calling a local pediatrician and speaking with her in Greek before we contacted her directly. Another staff member had fun helping my husband learn some Greek words and phrases after my husband expressed an interest, then proceeded to help him learn throughout the week. Kid-friendly detail: after they met our daughters, we also came back to our room to find two sets of Summer Senses robes and slippers, in child sizes, which our girls absolutely loved (matching the adult versions already in the room upon our arrival). This was a small touch that went a long way and made the girls’ night! The staff were extremely attentive to our kids. They remembered what they liked at dinner and went out of their way to make the girls feel welcomed and remembered.
Extras:
- The views from the hotel are beautiful, especially when looking out over the pool. We had some unforgettable take-your-breath-away moments here.
- The spa and the workout room were small but looked nice.
- Parking is free in a dedicated, gated lot. No stress and easy.
- I spoke to the concierge about a boat tour. The concierge was responsive and helpful, but I found the options to be limited. This was likely related mostly to the fact that we waited until the last-minute to look at options (we weren’t convinced we wanted to pursue it). I found the prices to be much higher than expected for the quality of the tours, so we did not end up booking it.
- Laundry services were available on-site, pay per item. I found the cost to be prohibitively expensive. We spent 5 nights at Summer Senses and I decided to save our laundry for our next location, which was an AirBnB where we had private access to self-serve laundry in our house.
Final Review: This resort is a gorgeous place to relax on Paros, away from the busier areas on the island. The views are unforgettable and the staff makes you feel well taken care of from start to finish.
